Blaze Get By Midwest Force 20-18...Clinch Playoff Spot

A shorthanded Battle Creek Blaze traveled south to Houston OH this past Saturday and came away with a victory that assures them a
home game during the first round of the Interstate Football League playoffs, on
September 11th. The Blaze hung on to win a hard-fought
contest with the Midwest Force 20-18, denying their hosts a two-point conversion in the closing minutes. The Blaze finished their
inaugural IFL regular season at 6-2, while the Force fell to 3-5.

Jason Doubleday (BC-Central) stepped in in the absence of QB Alec Hakes and led the Blaze offense against an aggressive Force defense.
RB Robbie Crockett (BC-Central) was the leading rusher on the day. Placekicker Jon Bartman kicked a FG to provide the only scoring for
the Blaze during the first half. The Force had scored in the game's opening seconds on a long TD run, giving them a 6-3 lead at the half.

Bartman kicked his second FG of the day during the 3rd quarter, knotting the game at 6-6. RB Chris Hurst (Athens) then put the Blaze
ahead with a rushing TD of 20 yards. Bartman kicked the extra point. The Force came back with a long TD drive to score on a pass from
Justin Miller to Jermaine Taylor. Their attempt at two points was unsuccessful, leaving the score 13-12.

The Blaze scored in the fourth quarter when Crockett's fumble at the end of a long run was recovered in the end zone by Blaze WR Chad
Drake (Vicksburg). Bartman's PAT gave the Blaze a 20-12 lead. The Force tightened things up with a fourth quarter score of their own but
once again, their attempt to tie the game with a two-point conversion was stifled by the Blaze defense and Battle Creek held on to win
20-18.

This win gave the Blaze the second seed in the North Division of the upcoming IFL playoffs. The Blaze (6-2) will now host the Indiana
Hitmen (5-3) at Athens High School on
September 11th. Kickoff is 7:02PM and that night's beneficiary is Lois Foster, an Athens resident
who is battling cancer.
