| The Blaze Belles dance team is a dance team consisting of girls ages 5-9 who perform at halftime at the Battle Creek Blaze Football games. As part of the Blaze, who raise money for local families dealing with cancer, the Belles set out to raise money for a charity of their own. Since the Belles are a group of children, they decided to raise money in conjunction with the Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale (GABS), which is raising money for childhood hunger in America. This is an important charity as “nearly 1 in 4 children in America struggle with hunger” – almost 17 million kids. At the July 24th Blaze game, the Belles and their families came together and provided baked goods for a bake sale prior to the start of the game, with all goods being $0.50. With the high energy of the Belles and the generous support of those that came to the game, the team was able to raise a grand total of $115. All of this money will be given to the Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale, where “funds raised support Share Our Strength’s national and local efforts to end childhood hunger in America by 2015. In 2009, [GABS] funded more than 300 organizations across the country working to end hunger” (www.gabs.strength.org). The Belles would like to thank all those that helped make the bake sale a success and for helping end childhood hunger in America! |
